Many writers forget that disabled characters can take part in adventures. And there are so many opportunities in science fiction and fantasy to include them!

Above all: read, listen, and watch. Inspiration and information is all around you. If one way of writing doesn't work for you, check out others and keep at it. No one can write the story the way you can, the story that is waiting in your heart and mind.

From life, work, family, or friends and go hide in your favorite places. My husband and I love to travel and camp or hike. We both work on the computer and need to give our brains and bodies a way out.

In my experience, it is a Microsoft Word document. However, it is typically a collection of decisions, grammar rules, lore, timelines, etc. that relate to a standalone novel or series.

So far, most of the editorial book maps that I have seen and created are in an Microsoft Excel sheet. That does not mean that is the only way you can create one. A writer's book map can look like a series of color coded post-it notes with scenes on it for instance.
